The vehicle was developed by a research team from Tianjing's Nankai University in north east China in collaboration with car makers, Great Wall Motor, reported People's Daily Online. More Photos After Cut....
Although the design is not quite ready to go into production, the current model went for its first trial run on July 15.
On its debut outing, spectators watched the car move backwards and forwards, as well as lock and unlock - all through the power of the mind.
However, Duan Feng, an associate professor at the university's computing and control engineering department, explained there was still some way to go before the technology could be put into production.
He said: 'The technology is quite mature, however, there is some room for improvement concerning the car's electronics, which will make the vehicle more secure, intelligent and user friendly.'
It is hoped that in the future the revolutionary invention will allow disabled people to drive.
Yet, as the car can only process binary information, it is currently unable to perform functions like making minor turns and holding the door open.
The research team behind the 'Smart Car', hope to rival the self-driving cars that are currently being developed by Google and Baidu.
